The New York Times posted a pretty fair review of Mint last week. Although, I appreciate reviews of my favorite products, what really drew me to this articles was the humorous and quite literal pie chart seen above. This delicious piece of “dessert math” was created by Kevin Van Aelst, a psychology student-turned-photographer from New Haven. He describes his photographs in the following manner:

My color photographs consist of common artifacts and scenes from everyday life, which have been rearranged, assembled, and constructed into various forms, patterns, and illustrations. The images aim to examine the distance between the ‘big picture’ and the ‘little things’ in life—the banalities of our daily lives, and the sublime notions of identity and existance.

He has a rather impressive collection of work on his site, but what I’m really digging are his depictions of biological phenomena. Considering that they’re made of common objects, Kevin’s work really makes you look and think of the mundane in a new light.
