Design Challenge

DiabetesMine recently announced their 2009 Design Challenge, an online competition encouraging the development of creative new tools for improving life with diabetes.

This competition is open to any individuals or organizations passionate about diabetes and product design – whether you’re an enterprising patient or parent, a startup company, a design student, an independent developer or engineer, or a pharma R&D pro. Entries from participants under age 18 are also welcome, and will be judged in a separate category.

This competition embodies putting design to good use. I certainly hope that designers will put their time and effort towards this noble cause, and the $10,000 grand prize doesn’t hurt. For inspiration please check out the past entries on DiabetesMine’s video site and their paper site. Although if you really want to get inspired I would look into Ellaluna Taylor’s Flex concept and Jiri Bukvald’s Insuline pump project.

Entries are due on 1 May 2009, 11:59 PM Pacific Time.

Prizes

  • $10,000 in cash for the Grand Prize winner;
  • $5,000 cash for the “Most Creative Idea” category winner;
  • $2,000 cash for the winner of the Kids’ Category.
